S/H 1964 Hofner 185 Artist Bass, Red

Whilst not the earliest, this is certainly one of the earlier examples of Hofner's foray into solid body bass manufacture and a beautifully preserved example at that! 

There was definitely a bit of influence from across the pond in the the way the 185 Artist body shape was altered to mirror the success of Fenders Jazz Bass with its double cut away and offset waist but once you plug it in, this bass is in a league of its own! 

Its got a wide range of tones to achieve from its two Humbuckers and it sounds brilliant.
